Lakewood AIDS service program expands into west Cleveland

The Lakewood FACT program (Facing the AIDS Challenge Together) provides home meal delivery and other critical support services for persons in the HIV/AIDS spectrum in Lakewood and Cleveland's West Side.

Currently FACT delivers meals seven days a week to some 28 homebound clients. Home meal delivery is a critical community service, since research has shown many persons with AIDS suffer from malnutrition.

Meals are prepared by Lakewood Hospital, St. Augustine Manor and Aristocrat Nursing Home under the supervision of their resident dieticians. Deliveries are made by FACT's team of generous volunteers. FACT hopes to

expand meal delivery to the Ohio City area, but additional volunteer drivers are needed. Anyone who can commit a few hours one day a week should contact Ed Magiste, FACT coordinator, at 216-529-7695.

FACT is a program offered through the City of Lakewood Department of Human Services, Division of Health, and is funded in part by the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) and the George Gund Foundation.

Other services provided include transportation for medical visits and the popular monthly Potluck events that offer food and fellowship for FACT clients.
